Tee Height Strike Test

Improve driver strike quality by learning how tee height and swing bottom influence strike location on the clubface. This trains low point as well as attack angle. With a driver we want a low point behind the ball with an upward attack angle. What this drill fixes

Fat shots, thin contact, and clipping the turf before the ball all trace back to the same problem: your low point is arriving too early. Low point control drills train you to strike ball-first and deliver the club to the right spot in your swing. This is one of the highest-leverage skills in golf — because a poor low point affects your distance, direction, and consistency on every shot. Part of TeeBetter's Low Point Control training.

COACH TIPS
  • Drivers perform best with slightly high-face strikes.
  • Low-face strikes often produce spinny, weak shots.
  • Tee height and low point control strongly influence strike location.
  • Many amateurs tee the ball too low or have a steeper downwards angle of attack. If you sky the ball (club comes off roof of the club and goes straight into the air) you need to learn to hit up on the ball ball opposed to down. A higher tee forces you to do this.

Common questions about Low Point Control drills

How do I stop hitting fat shots?

Fat shots happen when your low point — the bottom of your swing arc — arrives before the ball. Low point control drills use feedback tools like towels, alignment sticks, or impact spray to show you exactly where your club hits the ground. Drills like Towel is Lava, The Clearout, and 3 Points train your low point; practice with a par to beat so you have a score to improve on each session.

What causes thin shots?

Thin shots often share the same root cause as fat shots — an inconsistent low point. When you try to avoid the ground (to stop hitting fat), you sometimes catch the ball high on the face instead. Low point control drills train a consistent, ball-first strike so you eliminate both mishits at once. Track your score against par to see real improvement over time.
