Irons - One-Leg Low Point Challenge

Improve low point control and strike quality by reducing body movement and increasing balance awareness. Hitting shots whilst having 90% of weight on your lead leg can help golfers have more control of low point and attack angle to strike their irons with more conficence. What this drill fixes

Fat shots, thin contact, and clipping the turf before the ball all trace back to the same problem: your low point is arriving too early. Low point control drills train you to strike ball-first and deliver the club to the right spot in your swing. This is one of the highest-leverage skills in golf — because a poor low point affects your distance, direction, and consistency on every shot. Part of TeeBetter's Low Point Control training.

COACH TIPS
  • Standing on the lead leg encourages a more forward low point and steeper attack angle.
  • Keep swings controlled — this drill is about contact, not power.
  • Avoid swaying.
  • If balance is difficult, shorten your swing.
  • This drill often reveals strike flaws immediately.
  • In the swing, of course there is a lateral movement in the backswing into the trail side. However, most amateurs do not shift back early enough and sway too much rather than a turn.

Common questions about Low Point Control drills

How do I stop hitting fat shots?

Fat shots happen when your low point — the bottom of your swing arc — arrives before the ball. Low point control drills use feedback tools like towels, alignment sticks, or impact spray to show you exactly where your club hits the ground. Drills like Towel is Lava, The Clearout, and 3 Points train your low point; practice with a par to beat so you have a score to improve on each session.

What causes thin shots?

Thin shots often share the same root cause as fat shots — an inconsistent low point. When you try to avoid the ground (to stop hitting fat), you sometimes catch the ball high on the face instead. Low point control drills train a consistent, ball-first strike so you eliminate both mishits at once. Track your score against par to see real improvement over time.
