Curvature — draw, fade, slice, hook — comes entirely from the face-to-path relationship at impact. Once you understand and feel this, you can reduce unwanted curve, eliminate your big miss, or learn to hit a reliable draw or fade on command. In order to control curvature of a golf ball you must understand the relationship between face and path.

To hit a draw:

  • clubfaceface must be right of the target but left of your path
  • path will be in-to-out

To hit a fade:

  • clubface must be left of the target but right of your path
  • path will be out-to-in

Common questions about Curvature drills

How do I learn to hit a draw?

A draw comes from a swing path that's more right of the face at impact (for a right-handed golfer). Curvature drills like Curve From the Line and Curve to the Line train you to feel and control the face-path relationship so you can produce a draw — or any amount of curve — intentionally. Score against par so you know when you're making real progress.

How do I reduce the amount my ball curves?

Excessive curve (slice or hook) comes from a large difference between where the face points and where the club swings. Curvature drills build awareness of both variables so you can reduce the gap and straighten your ball flight. Once you understand the face-path relationship, you can dial curve up or down on purpose.
