What this drill fixes

Strike control means hitting the centre of the face consistently — not the toe, heel, or high and low. Every miss off-centre costs you distance and accuracy. Drills like this one (often with impact spray or tape) give you immediate feedback on where you're making contact, so you can make real adjustments instead of guessing. Part of TeeBetter's Strike Control training — the same framework coaches use to eliminate the mishits that cost you shots.

COACH TIPS
  • Good bunker shots are about controlling the sand, not the ball.
  • The club should enter the sand just before where the ball would be.
  • Think “splash the sand onto the green”, not “hit the ball”.

Common questions about Strike Control drills

How can I improve my ball-striking consistency?

Strike control drills train you to find and hold the centre of the face. Use impact spray or tape so you see exactly where you're contacting the ball — heel, toe, high, or low strikes are easy to spot and correct. Pick one or two strike drills per session, score against par, and track your progress so you know you're improving instead of just guessing.

Does where I hit the face really matter?

Yes — off-centre contact costs significant distance and affects direction. A toe strike with a driver can lose 20+ yards. Centre Strike Ladder, Strike Window, and similar drills isolate face contact so you can see the pattern, make adjustments, and tighten your dispersion. Training with a par gives you a clear goal every session.
